status of Inclusionary Zoning ORDINANCE

February 27, 2020 | A proposed Inclusionary Zoning ordinance was presented to the City Council at their February 27, 2020 meeting. The ordinance was referred to the Committee on Ordinances, Licenses & Legal Affairs and to a joint public hearing with the Planning Board.

March 30, 2020 | The City Council and Planning Board held a joint public hearing a March 30th; however there was no presentation on Inclusionary Zoning that night. The joint public hearing was continued to April 13, 2020.

April 13, 2020 | The City Council and Planning Board held a joint public hearing a April 13, 2020. A recording of the presentation is linked below. The joint public hearing was continued to May 4, 2020.

May 4, 2020 | The City Council and Planning Board closed the public hearing and referred the zoning amendment to the Planning Board. A written response to questions from April 13th meeting t can be found in the image below. A recording of the presentation is also linked below.

May 21, 2020 | The Planning voted to recommend that the City Council approve the Inclusionary Housing zoning amendment. The full text of the Planning Board’s recommendation can be viewed by clicking the image below.

July 9, 2020 | Eight (8) favorable votes are require to adopt a zoning amendment. The proposed ordinance failed, with seven (7) councilors in favor and four (4) councilors opposed.
